Advising

The mission of SCC Academic Advising is not only to promote academic advising, but also to encourage personal, social, and career development. Advising at SCC is an integral part of the educational process. The process begins by helping students to develop a realistic view of their strengths, challenges, knowledge, and skills. Based upon those initial steps in the process, SCC’s professional advisors respect, encourage, and assist students in establishing their educational goals and objectives.  SCC provides an environment and services that enable students to make informed personal, academic, and career decisions. SCC recognizes the potential for personal and academic growth in everyone.

In addition to academic advising, SCC provides career exploration. Advisors also maintain a Client Referral System, sponsor seminars, workshops, and serve as consultants to students, faculty, and staff.

  • If you are a first year student at SCC, call the Center for Advising, Retention & Engagement or contact your advisor directly.
  • If you are currently enrolled and are returning for another semester at SCC, contact your faculty advisor.  If you don’t know the advisor’s name, check your People Soft Self Service.  PS lists your faculty advisor.
  • If you are a former student (not currently enrolled) but are returning to take classes at SCC, call the SCC Admissions Office.

Regardless of your status as a student or former student, an advisor at SCC can get you started on your career path today.
