Applying for Aid

File your FAFSA as soon after October 1 as possible or as early as possible before the semester you want to start. Filing early gets you in line for any free financial aid grants; these are typically awarded on a first-come, first-served basis until funds are exhausted. Your financial information will be forwarded to the schools you list on the FAFSA. The FAFSA is required to receive any type of Federal Financial Aid at Somerset Community College. While not mandatory for all students, completing it is very strongly encouraged.

  • Create your FSA ID.

  • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online.

  • If you filed taxes, please use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool (instructions will be on the FAFSA website).

  • Add School Code 001997.

  • Wait approximately 10 days for us to receive your FAFSA and determine if more information is needed.
