Policy

The Quality Enhancement Plan approved in 2018 requires all students to take FYE 100 or FYE 105, but also exempts “students taking a career-specific equivalent orientation… that introduces students to the demands and requirements of that specific career field. The Chief Academic Officer will be responsible… for approving career-specific equivalent courses.”

Faculty may request FYE Equivalency status for a course by demonstrating how that course meets specific competencies. The Chief Academic Officer has the authority to approve this request. Somerset Community College students completing an approved FYE Equivalent designated course will not be required to complete an additional FYE course to meet the graduation requirements for an AA or AS.
