How do I run for office?
The Student Government Association (SGA) at Somerset Community College is comprised of a committed group of diverse individuals who represent the voice of the student body.
The SGA affords opportunities for student participation in democratic student government through which students may express themselves academically and artistically and engage in thoughtful, respectful debate about student and college issues. The group promotes the general welfare of all students and advocates for student rights and concerns.
The SGA serves as a liaison between the student body and college administrators and stimulates an appreciation for the privileges and responsibilities of being a student at Somerset Community College. In this role, the group strives to provide equal and unbiased representation to its constituents.
The organization places emphasis on the development of emerging student leaders and provides a safe, positive environment to encourage personal and professional growth.
As the chartering body for official student organizations and a coordinator of college and community events, the SGA enhances local culture through activities that promote intellectual curiosity, diversity and inclusion, appreciation for science and humanities, charitable and philanthropic ideals, leadership development, collaboration, and service to others.
SGA scholarships are funded by the W.O. and Lois Newell Endowed Scholarship Fund.
