Creating Your Account

Here's what you'll need:

  • Your birth month and day
  • Your KCTCS Student ID (the nine-digit code at the top-left corner of your schedule)
  • Your personal email address (if you provided one when enrolling)

Next, follow these steps:

  1. Visit the KCTCS User Account Center.
  2. Under New or Returning Student/User?, choose Setup Your User Account/Profile.
  3. Enter your birth month birth day, and KCTCS Student ID, then click Next.
  4. Verify your identity by having a code sent to your personal email (from unattended_noreply@kctcs.edu) or mobile phone (text). If you do not have a mobile phone or email on file, please call (606) 677-8334 for assistance. Enter the security code.
  5. Your screen will display your user name, student ID number, and allow you to create your password.
    • Note: See password requirements section for additional information. Your user name will be the first letter of your first name, your last name, and a series of four numbers. For example: bsmith0012. Don’t forget to write these down and keep them in a safe place.
  6. Once you click Save Password, a message will display confirming the password was successfully changed. If you do not receive this message in the box below, please select a new password or call (606) 677-8334. Need after-hours support? Please call (855) 465-2827.

How to Find Your Student ID

Current and future students may retrieve their student ID number and username on their student self-service in MyPath in the Profile tile. You may also access your student ID number, and username, and set your password on the User Account Center (UAC). If you are unable to log in, call (660) 677-8334.

  • Your Student ID number (also known as User ID, KCTCS ID, or EMPL ID) is used instead of a social security number and is a unique identifier assigned to the student at the time of application. Your Student ID number should be kept confidential. Generally, it is a nine digit number and begins with 00.
  • Your username is the name you will use along with your password to log into Student Self-Service, your KCTCS email, and Blackboard. It contains the first letter of your first name, your last name, and is followed by a four-digit number. Your username is available through the KCTCS User Account Center.

Resetting Your Password

To reset your password, follow these steps:

  1. Visit the KCTCS User Account Center.
  2. Under Current Student/User?, choose Reset Password.
  3. Enter your KCTCS username, email address, or ID and click Next. Your username is typically the first letter of your first name, your last name, and four digits. Ex: JSNOW0001. If you do not know your username or KCTCS email address, or ID, click on the Reset Password link to use your Date of Birth and KCTCS ID.
    • Need help? Reach out to us at (606) 677-8334 for assistance.
  4. Verify your identity by having a code sent to your personal email or mobile phone (text).

What is MyPath?

MyPath provides quick single-sign-on access to various systems and resources of information you need. MyPath is your guide to help you securely access the systems you need as a currently enrolled student - without having to remember links or URLs. To get you started:

  • Go to the MyPath website. You can also find this link in the top left corner of all of our pages.
  • Your username is your full KCTCS email address, such as smith@kctcs.edu or jdoe0011@kctcs.edu.

Two-Factor Authentication

During your initial KCTCS Student Account set up, you will be prompted to enroll in MFA and prompted with your next steps. If you already have your KCTCS Student Account and need to add/remove/change authentication methods, you may do so on your Microsoft Security Information page.

If you have trouble with the steps below, detailed step-by-step information is documented by Microsoft.

  1. From the iOS or Google Play store, download the “Microsoft Authenticator” application.
    1. Using the authenticator application is optional, but is the most secure and easiest-to-use option. If you do not have access to a mobile device, you can skip this step and will be able to select other options for authentication upon registration.
  2. Open a browser and navigate to MFA Setup.
  3. If prompted, sign in with your KCTCS email address and password.
  4. At the “More Information Required” message, follow the prompts to set up your first authentication method. The default method is the Microsoft Authenticator app.
    1. Note: If you have previously registered devices for MFA or Password Self-Service, you may be taken straight to the Security Info page. If this happens, continue to the next step.
  5. Once you have completed the required registration, you will be taken to the Security Info page where you can continue to register more methods as well as change your default method of authentication. (The first method registered will automatically be the default method unless you change it here.)

If you have issues with authentication that you’re unable to resolve, please call (606) 677-8334 from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. EST Monday-Friday.
