As a typical non-traditional student and after many years of not being inside a classroom I was nervous about starting college again. My perspective changed as soon as I met Melissa Winstead from Career Services. The tools and resources she offered helped me to discover what I was most passionate about.

Another great experience that changed my perspective on college was to see how much she truly cares for the well-being of each student and the desire to see each and every single one of them succeed. This program not only gave me options, support, encouragement but also faith to believe that there was a better future for me and my family and that I had everything I needed to succeed in the field I choose.

Until this day, I firmly believe that becoming a Store Manager for Rue21 company has a lot to do with the guidance and support I received from Melissa Winstead and the career Services.

In conclusion, I cannot express the importance of this program. I believe all students should gain a better understanding of what Career Services can do for them and the impact it will have in their future. The world will be a much better place for it, and I feel sure that many will decide, as I did, to continue with the effort!

AAS Medical Information Technology - May 2020

I began my college experience at 43. I had been working at a factory for 22 years and fully expected to retire from it. Unfortunately, it was closed in favor of the facility they had built in Mexico. I had the option to attend college on a grant that would pay for my first two years of continued education as long as I met the continuing requirements. I decided that obtaining an associate's degree was the best plan for my future. I did well in my classes but never really felt I had a solid grip on my options. During the course of my college experience, I discovered the student career services center. Up to this point, I had felt like a fish out of water and wasn't really sure of what I was working toward. Melissa told me about, and allowed me the time, to take an assessment test that showed where my interests laid.  She looked over the classes I had already taken and advised me on the classes I would need to take to pursue the field I chose. She delved deeper and showed my potential varying job opportunities from that education path and potential salaries. I left her office that day feeling more confident and in control than I had since I had begun my college career. I left with a plan and a sense of relief. With the help of Career Services, I landed a job in my field the week of finals during my last semester and have been there happily 10 months now.
