Early success of Low-Cost VR Platform project leads to Virtual Reality Access Center (VRAC) project
Because of the early success of the Low-Cost VR Platform project, Kentucky Community
& Technical College System (KCTCS) supported a grant application for Perkins Leadership
funding ($100,000) to take the work developed with this project directly to KCTCS
faculty and staff. The Virtual Reality Access Center (VRAC) project planned to train
them during an intense 3-month period using our materials in how to make quality Low-Cost
VR content for educational training. The funding included computer/VR equipment and
stipends for 16 participants. Eleven participants completed their training. Hardware
was assembled, VR environments were created on computers, and those interactive environments
were transferred to the VR headsets for participant interactions. By the end of the
workshop, comments were made regarding how easy it is to create high quality VR environments
by utilizing downloadable, pre-existing VR assets instead of having to create them
individually.
