Morehead State signs imaging sciences transfer partnership with Somerset Community College

Morehead State University and Somerset Community College are partnering to produce highly educated imaging sciences graduates that will benefit the Commonwealth.
The two institutions signed an agreement on Wednesday, July 23, at Somerset Community
College. It allows students who have completed an Associate of Applied Science in
Radiography from SCC to complete a Bachelor of Science in Imaging Sciences in Computed
Tomography/Magnetic Resonance (CTMR) through MSU while taking courses at SCC. For
added convenience, SCC will have a special classroom for students to interact with
the MSU instructor remotely and complete their bachelor's degree courses.

"We're so excited to announce a new partnership between Morehead State, the University Center of Southern Kentucky, and Somerset Community College that expands opportunities for students pursuing careers in CTMR imaging," said Jen Timmermann (Class of 2003, 2007), director of adult and transfer admissions.
“Through this collaboration, students can now complete their advanced imaging education on the community college campus, guided by our exceptional university faculty through distance learning. This program not only prepares students for high-demand careers in medical imaging but also strengthens the meaningful relationship between our institutions. Together, we're building brighter futures—right where our students are."
Randall Hammock, program director for SCC's radiography program, says the partnership provides students with a clear and valuable career pathway.
"The SCC/MSU partnership highlights a pathway for advanced modality-trained radiographers that will serve our region for years to come,” said Hammock. “This is a transfer program that the University Center of Southern Kentucky/SCC and Morehead State has successfully implemented. The career progression for our radiography students can literally ‘start here... and finish here at SCC!’”
Jeff Fannin (Class of 1990), associate professor of imaging sciences at MSU, initially had the idea for the transfer agreement. He collaborated with Dr. Brandon Hughes (Class of 2004, 2005), clinical coordinator for MSU's CTMR program, and Dr. Manuel Probst, department chair for the Department of Health, Kinesiology, Imaging & Psychological Sciences, to contact SCC faculty and propose the idea.
"Health care is a growing industry with hospitals and clinics constantly looking for employees. Job placement for students graduating from Imaging programs is 100%," Probst said. "We feel this will provide a steady stream of students who will be multi-credentialed in radiography and CTMR that can enter the workforce and provide a much-needed service to the region."
Korey Bruck, director of the University Center of Southern Kentucky, says the initiative fulfills a larger mission.
“At the University Center of Southern Kentucky, we are proud to serve as the bridge between aspiration and achievement,” Bruck said. “This new transfer pathway/program between Somerset Community College and Morehead State University empowers our students to stay local while earning a bachelor’s degree in CTMR (Computed Tomography and Magnetic Resonance). A field that is both high-demand and high-impact. It’s more than a partnership; it’s a promise from SCC and MSU to our students that their goals are within reach, right here at home.”
The program is already making an impact. Addison Langford, a May 2025 SCC radiography
graduate and the first to enroll in the CTMR bachelor’s program through UCSK and MSU,
shared her experience.
“I chose the transfer route with UCSK to gain not only the education but also to make myself more marketable in this field,” Langford said. “It is a no-brainer; you get your bachelor’s in 11 months after your two-year community college program. I am happy to be the first one from SCC to transfer and study at Morehead for this special opportunity. I can study at home and work in the field while earning my bachelor's degree. This is a great opportunity for SCC students.”
