A student enrolled in the Somerset Community College Health Science Technology Program has been honored as the SCC Health Sciences Division’s Student of the Month for July. Samantha Daugherty of Pine Knot received the award and is now in the running for the Division’s Student of the Year, with the winner to be announced in May 2025.
Daugherty has already completed a nurse aide course at SCC and is set to finish a certification as an emergency medical technician this fall.
The Health Science Technology Program is tailored to prepare students for entry-level career opportunities in healthcare and health-related services. The program caters to both students seeking entry-level jobs and current employees looking to expand their skills for career development. Graduating from the program provides various opportunities within healthcare institutions, with a requirement to complete three or more distinct health-related certificate programs.
Daugherty was recommended for the award by EMS-Paramedic Program Coordinator Samantha Feldman and was supported by Dean of Health Sciences, Dr. Ron Meade.
"We are thrilled to see a representative of the Health Sciences Technology Program be recognized this month,” says Meade. “Daugherty is an outstanding representative, and I believe she has a promising future ahead of her. I am particularly impressed with her interpersonal skills and professional demeanor."
“SCC has been helpful in guiding me to plan for my future,” says Daugherty. “I tell my children that I want them to pursue their dreams, and I feel I must also follow my own to set an example. This opportunity allows me to do that.”
Daugherty is married to Jason Daugherty, and the couple has two children, Wyatt and Emma.
