Somerset Community College Offering Industrial Maintenance and Welding Courses in the Evening for the Spring 2014 Term

For working adults or those wishing to pursue a new line of work in a high demand field and to meet the growing needs of business and industry, Somerset Community College is now offering evening courses for Spring Term 2014 in Industrial Maintenance Technology (IMT) and Welding. Classes will be held at the Somerset Campus.

Welding classes have been offered in the evenings since fall 2012, and have been extremely successful. There has been much demand for the expansion of classes in other fields, and the evening offering for IMT will be new this coming spring.

The first of the evening IMT class offerings for the spring semester is Fluid Power. The class will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30 8:30 p.m. This class can be applied toward earning an Industrial Maintenance Mechanic Level 1 certificate and can be obtained in three semesters by taking one class/lab each semester. This certificate is the first step toward obtaining an Industrial Maintenance Technician diploma or an Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree in Industrial Maintenance Technology.

Three different welding classes will be offered spring semester during the evening, Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (TIG) on Mondays and Wednesdays, 4:30 7:30 p.m.; Shielded Metal Arc Welding on Mondays and Wednesdays, 6:30 9:30 p.m.; and Gas Metal Arc Welding (MIG) on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6:30 9:30 p.m.
