Somerset Community College named one of the Best Places to Work in Kentucky

Somerset Community College has once again been named one of the Best Places to Work in Kentucky 2011. At an awards dinner held on April 20, SCC placed 18th out of 39 in the large company category.

The awards program was created in 2005 and is a project of the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, Kentucky SHRM Council and Best Companies Group. It is the seventh year for the event and it is the sixth year that SCC has been named one of the winners.

Awards were given in two categories: Businesses employing more than 250 (large) and those employing less than 250 (small/medium). Somerset Community College competed in the large business category. First place in this category went to Genentech, a leading biotech company, second place was the law firm of Stoll Keenon Ogden PLLC, and third place went to Edward Jones, a national financial services firm.

This statewide survey and awards program was designed to identify, recognize and honor the best places of employment in Kentucky, benefiting the state's economy, its workforce and businesses.

The selection process, managed by Best Companies Group, is based on an assessment of the company's benefits, policies and practices and the results of confidential employee evaluation. The combined data allowed the experts to analyze the strengths and challenges of each company and then determine who was good enough to make the list and then compared and ranked them in different size categories.

Dr. Jo Marshall, President and CEO of Somerset Community College stated, Through Best Places to Work, we are able to measure our employees workplace satisfaction each year. It is an honor to be listed in the top 20 Best Places to Work in Kentucky. It is gratifying to know that my fellow employees enjoy coming to work every day and it shows their commitment to helping our students succeed.

Somerset Community College is a comprehensive two-year institution of higher education. SCC has campuses in Somerset and London, centers in Clinton, McCreary, Casey, and Russell Counties. The website is
