Justin Yazza, a Somerset Community College (SCC) student, was recently named a Kentucky Veterans Hall of Fame scholarship recipient. Yazza was given the award at the Kentucky Veterans Hall of Fame induction ceremony on September 26, 2015 in Frankfort, Kentucky.
Yazza, a married father of four, is an active member of the college campus and his community. Yazza plans to become a Physical Therapist Assistant and maintains a 3.83 grade point average.
Yazza is a Veteran with 10 years of military experience. He served in both the U.S. Air Force and the Army, and was deployed to both Afghanistan and Iraq.
In his local community, Yazza leads worship groups including a mens worship study at Eagle Heights Church, and mentors children in the discipline of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. He serves on the board of directors for the Vanover Village, a local homeless shelter for elderly Veterans. In addition, he is the president of the Somerset Community College Veterans Club and a college ambassador.
Twelve Kentucky Community and Technical College System students were honored at the event and 25 Kentucky military veterans were inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2015.
