SCC Physical Therapist Assistant Program Announces Outstanding Student Awards

The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) Program at Somerset Community College (SCC) has announced its outstanding student award recipients for 2015.

Brittany McKee of Bronston was named the winner of the 2015 Total Rehab Award, presented annually to an outstanding SCC second-year PTA student. The award is peer-selected and is named in honor of the Total Rehab Center, which has contributed to the success of the PTA Program over many years.

McKee has been active in a number of community service projects, including assisting with free health screens at the Kentucky Special Olympics and fundraising for the Polar Plunge. She has coordinated fundraisers for the March of Dimes and the American Heart Association. On campus, she has served as Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer of the SCC Student Government Association and was named the recipient of Physical Therapy Student Organizations Outstanding Student Award for 2014 and received program awards for campus and community involvement in 2015. She is also a member of Phi Theta Kappa International Honorary and was an SCC Student Ambassador. She is the daughter of Jamie Davis of Somerset and Katina Davis of Whitley City. She will graduate from the PTA Program in May, 2015 and plans to work as a travelling PTA.

Travis Dills of Somerset was named the winner of the James H. Anderson Award, presented annually to an outstanding SCC first-year PTA student. The award is peer-selected and is named in honor of former SCC faculty member and PTA program director James H. Anderson.

In addition to serving as president of his class, Dills is the Vice-Chair of the Kentucky Physical Therapy Associations Student Special Interest Group and will represent Kentucky at the Federal Advocacy Forum in Washington, DC in June as the winner of a statewide essay competition. He has maintained a perfect 4.00 grade-point average and is a member of Phi Theta Kappa International Honorary. He is the son of Mike and Sharon Dills of Somerset. He is scheduled to graduate with an Associate of Applied Science Degree from the PTA Program in May, 2016.

Other program students receiving recognition include: Courtney Carpenter Watts of Kings Mountain, Outstanding Mentor Award and Campus and Community Involvement Award and; Breanna Warner of Hustonville, Outstanding Physical Therapy Student Organization Member for 2015.
