Open House held for new Health Sciences Building on Laurel Campus

An Open House of the new Health Sciences Building on the Somerset Community College Laurel Campus was held Monday, May 10. Guest speakers for the event were: Senator Tom Jensen; Representative Marie Rader; Laurel County Judge-Executive, Lawrence Kuhl; Mayor of London, Troy Rudder; and KCTCS President, Dr. Michael B. McCall.

The Health Sciences Building opened January 2010 with over 53,000 square feet. The two story structure is allowing the Laurel Campus to expand programs in Practical Nursing, Respiratory Care, Nurse Aid Training, and Medical Assisting. It is also providing the addition of two new health programs to the Laurel Campus; Pharmacy Technology in the fall 2010 and Associate Degree Nursing in the spring 2011.

The Health Sciences Building includes a one stop student services component that allows students to access Admissions, Financial Aid, and Counseling Services in a combined area. The building encompasses many technological features including geothermal HVAC, energy lighting, and wireless technology.
