A student currently enrolled in the Somerset Community College (SCC) Associate Degree
Nursing (ADN) Program has been selected as the Health Sciences Division’s Student
of the Month for May.
Kristian Meade received the honor in recognition of her outstanding dedication, professionalism, and commitment to patient-centered care. As a result of this achievement, Meade is now a candidate for the SCC Health Sciences Division’s Student of the Year Award.
Meade chose to pursue a career in nursing because of her desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others while serving her community.
“Nursing is more than a career to me. It’s a calling,” said Meade. “The ADN program has challenged me in ways that have helped me grow both academically and personally, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to learn skills that will allow me to give back to my community.”
Her journey reflects strong dedication and perseverance, including the difficult decision to leave a full-time position of more than seven years to fully commit to her education while continuing to work part-time. “It wasn’t an easy choice, but I knew it was necessary to pursue my goals,” Meade shared.
She extends special thanks to her mother, Kimberly, and her sisters, Kaitlyn and Kayla,
for their continued encouragement and support throughout her educational journey.
According to ADN faculty, Meade consistently exemplifies the qualities essential to the nursing profession. “Kristian demonstrates exceptional professionalism, compassion, and a genuine commitment to patient-centered care,” said ADN faculty. “She comes prepared for class, lab, and clinical experiences, maintains a positive attitude, and is always eager to learn and improve.”
Faculty members also emphasized her strong work ethic and openness to feedback. “She is highly receptive to instruction and uses feedback to strengthen her clinical judgment and skills,” faculty noted. “Her ability to connect with patients on a personal level and her dedication to excellence truly set her apart.”
The SCC Associate Degree Nursing Program continues to prepare students for successful careers in healthcare by equipping graduates with the knowledge, skills, and professionalism needed to provide high-quality patient care across a variety of clinical settings.
