On Friday evening, Somerset Community College (SCC) hosted its annual Honors Night,
an event dedicated to recognizing the academic excellence and leadership of its most
accomplished students. The ceremony celebrated those who earned academic distinctions,
specialty honors, and demonstrated outstanding commitment throughout the academic
year.
The program opened with a memorable performance by SCC Dual Credit student Monique
Mwasumbi, whose rendition set an inspiring tone for the evening. Guests were treated
to inspiring moments that reflected the perseverance and dedication of SCC’s student
body, highlighted by a moving musical performance of The National Anthem as SCC student
veterans were recognized.
More than 200 awards were presented during the ceremony, honoring students for their achievements across a wide range of academic disciplines and leadership roles. Faculty members, instructors, and staff participated in the celebration, emphasizing the vital role mentorship and support play in student success.
In addition to awards, a number of stipends were given to students provided by the
SCC Foundation, offering meaningful financial support as they continue their educational
journeys and prepare for future career opportunities.
“This evening allows us to pause and recognize the remarkable efforts of our students,” said SCC President and CEO Dr. Carey Castle. “Their determination, resilience, and passion inspire us all, and we are proud to support them as they move forward.”
The Honors Night ceremony not only highlighted individual accomplishments but also
reinforced the strong sense of community at SCC, demonstrating the college’s ongoing
commitment to academic excellence and student achievement.
