SCC's Robot Gladiator League team at a competitionSomerset Community College’s (SCC) Robot Gladiator League (RGL) team continues its standout first-ever season after securing its fourth consecutive victory on March 7, 2026, at the former Woodford County High School in Versailles, Kentucky. Competing against Grant County CTC, the SCC team overcame last-minute technical challenges to maintain its undefeated status in league play.

The SCC RGL team is led by Coach Steven Bates and Assistant Volunteer Coach Matthew Townsend, with Bailey Burke serving as Team Captain and Driver. Additional team members include:

  • Shawn Massey – Driver (Industrial Maintenance Tech)
  • Cohen Stringer – Battle System Operator (Industrial Maintenance Tech)
  • Wyatt Morgan – Battle System Operator (Welding)
  • Nick Pippin – Industrial Maintenance Tech

“Working with my teammates to design and build ideas has been an incredibly rewarding experience,” said Burke, “We collaborate regularly to decide what will work best in competitions, but the real teamwork happens at matches when we prepare and refine our bots. I’ve gained valuable skills in communication, electronics, and problem‑solving that are already helping me as I work toward a career in industrial maintenance and robotics.”

Despite the team’s perfect record, SCC currently holds second place in league rankings. The RGL ranking system prioritizes matches won, followed by cumulative points earned throughout the season. While both SCC and Morgan County ATC remain undefeated, Morgan County has earned a higher total point score, placing them in the top position. The final event of the season does not contribute to rankings but serves as the culminating competition for all 14 teams in the league.

SCC competes within the Titan Legion, a division known for its traditional battle bot format centered on high-impact combat, powerful engineering, and strategic driving.

The season final is scheduled for:

April 25, 2026
Paul Laurence Dunbar High School
1600 Man o’ War Boulevard, Lexington, KY

SCC’s team looks forward to showcasing their skill, teamwork, and innovation as they enter the final match of the season with an unbroken winning streak and strong momentum.
