Dream of becoming a pilot? SCC's newest pilot program info session set for Monday
Published on Jan 22, 2026
Students, families, and community members are invited to attend Somerset Community College's Fixed Wing Pilot Program Learn and Explore Session on Monday, January 26, 2026, from 5:00–6:00 p.m. The event will take place in the Harold Rogers Student Commons Building, Community Room (Room 107), on the SCC Somerset North Campus.
“This is an exciting new opportunity for students in our region who have dreamed of becoming pilots,” said Dr. Castle, President & CEO of Somerset Community College. “By partnering with Madisonville Community College, we’re able to bring a high-quality, industry-driven fixed-wing training option closer to home. It’s a powerful example of how colleges within KCTCS can work together to expand access to in-demand careers.”
The Learn and Explore Session will provide attendees with important program information, upcoming opportunities, and a chance to connect with instructors.
If inclement weather prevents the event from being held on January 26, organizers have scheduled an alternate date of Friday, January 30, 2026, from 5:00–6:00 p.m., at the same location.
The first 12-week fixed-wing ground school course at SCC Somerset South Campus is scheduled to begin Feb. 10. This introductory course will cover essential topics such as aviation weather, aircraft systems, navigation, regulations, and safety, providing the academic foundation students need before advancing to flight labs.
There is still time to enroll. You might just launch your newest adventure with us.
