From Factory Floor to Dean: Chris Hall’s Inspiring new role at SCC
Published on Jan 8, 2026
Somerset Community College (SCC) is proud to announce the appointment of Kentucky
native Chris Hall as the new Dean of Career and Technical Education.
Hall has served SCC for over twelve years, holding positions such as KYFAME instructor, workforce instructional specialist, and Associate Dean of Career and Technical Education for seven of those years.
It wasn’t until his thirties that Hall considered education as a career path. After being displaced from his 15-year factory job working in production and as a journeyman pipefitter for Ford Motor Company, he enrolled at SCC. During his time as a student, Professor Curt Null encouraged Hall to pursue a future in education.
Hall discovered his passion at SCC and now dedicates himself to helping others do
the same. As a first-generation college graduate, Hall’s journey resonates with many
students who pass through SCC, making him uniquely relatable to those facing similar
challenges. Each year, he speaks to thousands of Kentucky students, sharing his inspiring
story of how community college and technical education transformed his life. He emphasizes
how technical education can empower individuals from southeastern Kentucky and beyond
to change the trajectory of their lives and their families.
“I have witnessed hundreds of success stories,” Hall said. “I’ve been in their shoes—coming from humble beginnings and finding purpose in a thriving career. It’s my passion to help others discover the tools they need to succeed.”
Hall believes his new role will further expand his ability to advocate for technical education as a powerful tool for success.
“My goal is to strive to make students aware of the many options available through career and technical education, which are vital and thriving in the modern economy,” Hall said. “Education isn’t one-size-fits-all. SCC can help our community blaze a path to success for their families.”
SCC Provost, Dr. Ron Meade, shared his thoughts on Hall’s latest accomplishment at SCC.
"Chris brings a powerful personal story about his path into higher education and the impact it has had on his life, one he willingly shares with students of all ages as they navigate their own educational journeys,” said Dr. Meade, Provost. “His background and experience have made him a tremendous asset to the college, and his leadership has produced excellent outcomes. We are proud of Chris and excited to see him advance into this role."
Hall plans to strengthen the connection between the community and the college, striving to ensure that everyone feels SCC is truly “their community college.” He will continue to advocate for collaborations with employers and businesses while listening and responding to the needs of the community.
“We want to be a pipeline of talent for our local businesses,” Hall said. “I am ready to further SCC’s mission and help change lives through technical education. Community college shouldn’t be the last choice—it can and should be the first choice.”
In his spare time, Hall serves as a youth pastor at the Hill Church in Casey County and enjoys outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, and farming.
Hall’s story is one of perseverance, transformation, and a deep commitment to serving his community. As he steps into his role as Dean, Hall remains focused on opening doors for students and expanding opportunities through technical education. With his vision and drive, he aims to ensure Somerset Community College continues to be a catalyst for student success and regional growth.
