SCC Celebrates record numbers for 2025 Fall Commencement
Published on Dec 12, 2025
Somerset Community College (SCC) proudly hosted its Fall 2025 Commencement ceremony at The Corbin Arena, where 209 students celebrated their academic achievements by walking across the stage. This event honored the dedication and perseverance of SCC students who have completed their programs and joined the college’s vibrant alumni community.
The ceremony began Thursday evening with the presentation of colors by Corbin High School JROTC and a stirring rendition of the National Anthem performed by SCC student Heather Smiley.
For the Fall 2025 semester, SCC received approximately 703 applications for graduation across all campus locations. While not all graduates were able to attend the ceremony, SCC awarded an impressive 409 degrees, 1,178 certificates, and 136 diplomas, showcasing the wide range of educational pathways SCC offers. Many graduates earned multiple credentials, demonstrating their commitment to advancing their education and career opportunities.
This year’s commencement was especially meaningful as SCC celebrated many first-generation college graduates, graduates who are parents and non-traditional students who are transforming their lives and inspiring future generations within their families and communities.
“We are extremely proud of each and every student who graduated today,” said SCC President and CEO Dr. Carey Castle. “Their accomplishments are a testament to their hard work and dedication. We are honored to support them on their journey and look forward to seeing the impact they will make as members of the SCC Alumni family.”
As these graduates move forward, they carry with them the skills, knowledge, and values instilled at SCC. The college remains committed to empowering future students to achieve their dreams through education.
