Published on Nov 13, 2025
Somerset Community College (SCC) is thrilled to announce that our Gladiator Robot League team has achieved a victory in their debut match, held at the old Woodford County High School. Competing against a talented team from Ashland Community College. SCC triumphed with a score of 100 points, outpacing Ashland’s 89 points.
The Gladiator Robot League encompasses 14 participating schools, including three community colleges, showcasing the innovative spirit and teamwork among students. SCC currently holds the 7th position out of the 14 teams in the league.
The SCC team comprises five dedicated individuals enrolled in various programs, including Industrial Maintenance Technology, Welding, and 3D Printing. They are eager to expand their team and invite students from other disciplines to join this exciting initiative.
Steven Bates, Coach of the SCC Gladiator team and instructor in the Industrial Maintenance Technology program, expressed his pride in the students' accomplishment. “Our team got to see the skills they learn in the classroom come together in a real-life team-building effort among multiple disciplines while having fun. That is what this new Gladiator League team is all about, and it’s great to see them succeed!”
The next battle is set to take place soon on November 15 at the old Woodford County High School.
The SCC Gladiator team encourages the community to come out and show their support as they continue to compete against other talented teams.
