
Ane Crabtree, costume designer for The Handmaid’s Tale will speak at SCC

Somerset Community College is excited to announce a special event featuring Ane Crabtree,
the talented costume designer behind the Hulu adaptation of Margaret Atwood's iconic
novel, The Handmaid's Tale Season 1 and 2. This enlightening conversation will take
place at SCC’s Somerset North Campus Meece Auditorium on September 3 from 11 a.m.-
12 p.m., in addition to the option to connect online to the live event.
Ane Crabtree, a proud Kentucky native from Henderson, will delve into her creative process, exploring how her upbringing in Kentucky has influenced her work. Attendees will gain insights into the intricate designs that brought the dystopian world of The Handmaid’s Tale to life, as well as the significant impact of the narrative on her artistic choices.
Ane has also worked on other notable shows, including the pilot of The Sopranos, Westworld, Pan Am, and Justified, to name a few. Her work on The Handmaid’s Tale garnered her three Emmy-nominations, and she received four Costume Guild Awards nominations for her other work, with one win for The Handmaid’s Tale. Her designs have been exhibited at the Smithsonian Institution, SCAD FASH Museum of Fashion + Film, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and she was included in Fast Company's "100 Most Creative People" in 2018.
As part of the event, Crabtree will discuss the inspirations drawn from the original book by Atwood and share her perspective on the elements of the story that resonated with her the most. This event promises to be an engaging blend of personal reflection and professional insight.
