
Join SCC for a celebratory Earth Day event

Somerset Community College (SCC) is thrilled to announce our 17th Annual Earth Day
Celebration, taking place on Sunday, April 13, 1 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. at our beautiful
Somerset North Campus. This year’s event promises to be an exciting and informative
gathering with a fantastic lineup of exhibitors and activities for all ages.
We are delighted to welcome a variety of renowned exhibitors, including Liberty Nature Center, Cumberland Falls State Resort Park Critters, KY Reptile Zoo, and Born 2 Be Wild Wildlife Rehabilitation. Attendees can also explore the offerings of Joy of Natives Plant Nursery and Glory Gardens Greenhouse. Whether you're interested in electric vehicles, wildlife rehabilitation, or native plants, there’s something for everyone.
Our Earth Day Celebration will include kid-friendly activities, our popular rain barrel and tree and plant giveaways, and much more. The event will take place rain or shine, so come prepared for a great day outside!
In addition to the exhibits, we are excited to feature a speaker series in our Harold Rogers Student Commons Community Room. The schedule is as follows:
1:15 PM - Wanda and Denny Fries: The Complexity of Coal
2:00 PM - Dr. Fred Rockhold: KY Evolve Electric Vehicles
2:45 PM - Dr. Pingen Chen and Maxavier Lamantia: Tennessee Tech's EV and Charger Programs
3:30 PM - Melanie Lawless: The Importance of Native Plant Species
All presentations are free and open to the public, providing a great opportunity to learn more about environmental topics that affect our community and the planet. We invite everyone in the community to join us in celebrating the beauty and importance of nature. This event is a time for people of all ages to enjoy, connect, and appreciate the wonderful things that nature provides us.
Kelly Johnson, Professor of Biology brings her expertise in planning this event and looks forward to the Earth Day event that brings the community together every year.
