University Center of Southern Kentucky announces Transfer Champions awarded to SCC’s Angela Swim and Sandra Stevens

This recognition highlights their exceptional contributions to creating and promoting local and accessible transfer pathways that empower students in the southern Kentucky region.

The mission of UCSK is to provide collaborative educational opportunities through partnerships with various post-secondary institutions, aiming to increase educational attainment, foster economic growth, and enhance employability and quality of life for residents in southern Kentucky.

The faculty recipient, Angela Swim, has demonstrated unwavering dedication to student success and has been instrumental in developing innovative transfer pathways for students seeking to continue their education beyond an associate degree. Their commitment to academic excellence and mentorship has inspired countless students to pursue higher education.

Michael Goleman, SCC's Associate Dean of Humanities, Fine Arts, and Social Sciences commented on Angela’s influence on the student community at SCC.

"Angela's unwavering dedication to helping students navigate their academic journeys is truly commendable. She ensures that they have access to accurate information and resources, promotes transfer pathways in her classes, and co-sponsors the Active Minds Club. Angela consistently goes above and beyond to support her students and genuinely cares about their success."

The staff recipient, Sandra Stevens, has played a pivotal role in supporting student services and enhancing transfer processes. Their proactive approach in guiding students through the complexities of transferring to four-year institutions ensures that students are well-prepared and informed on their academic journeys.

Carla Rose, Director of CARE advising had high praise for Stevens.

“Sandra is a great champion for our students. She is consistently working toward learning about transfer options that are beneficial for students. With her history in K-12 as well as post-secondary education, she is aware of what our students need in order to be successful. We are grateful to have her in the C.A.R.E. Department.”

 Korey Bruck, the Director of UCSK, emphasized the crucial role that transfer champions play in helping students access the resources they need to advance their education as a transfer student.

“Angela and Sandra exemplify the dedication and passion that make a real difference in the lives of our students,” Bruck said. ”Their commitment to fostering seamless transfer pathways and providing unwavering support ensures that students at SCC have the resources and guidance needed to achieve their academic and career goals. The UCSK is proud to recognize their efforts and celebrate their impact on student success, especially transfer, here at SCC.”
