Somerset Community College Celebrates Fall Commencement Ceremony
Published on Dec 16, 2024
Somerset Community College (SCC) proudly hosted its Fall Commencement ceremony at The Corbin Arena, where 146 students celebrated their academic achievements by walking across the stage. This event highlighted the hard work and determination of students who completed their degrees and joined a vibrant community of alumni.
The event began on Thursday evening after the presentation of colors from Corbin High School JROTC and the singing of the National Anthem from SCC student Kodi Wells-Garland from Somerset working towards her AS and hoping to get into the SCC Nursing Program in the future.
This Fall Term, SCC received an approximate total of 1,460 applications for graduation across all campus locations. Although not all graduates were able to attend the ceremony, the institution approximately awarded an impressive 374 degrees, 984 certificates, and 102 diplomas, underscoring the diverse educational pathways available at SCC. Many graduates earned multiple credentials, demonstrating their commitment to furthering their education and enhancing their career prospects.
This year's Fall Commencement held special significance as it celebrated a remarkable number of first-generation college graduates. These students are not only transforming their own lives through higher education but also inspiring future generations within their families and communities.
"We are extremely proud of each and every student who graduated today," said SCC President and CEO Dr. Carey Castle. "Their accomplishments are a testament to their hard work and dedication. We are honored to support them on their journey and look forward to seeing the impact they will make as members of the SCC Alumni family."
As these graduates embark on the next chapter of their lives, they carry with them the skills, knowledge, and values instilled at SCC. The college remains committed to promoting education and empowering future students to achieve their dreams.
