Chamber Holiday Auction provides SCC scholarships for locals
Published on Dec 11, 2024
Somerset Community College (SCC) is proud to announce the overwhelming success of this year’s Somerset-Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce Holiday Auction, which raised over $36,500 to support scholarships for students who graduate from any of the four high schools in Pulaski County. The auction highlighted the commitment of the local chamber, chamber members, and the community to enhance higher education opportunities in our region.
The auction represents a collective effort, as many local businesses generously donated items. During the December chamber luncheon, chamber members bid and purchase the items through a silent auction and live auction. This year's event featured high-demand items such as a UK Coach Pope signed basketball, several UK tickets, and beautiful gift baskets and wreaths from local businesses.
Many items were available through an online auction facilitated by Ford Brothers Auctioneers. The high-demand items online were a Gatormade trailer, various tools, cabin rental at Pulaski County Park, and a Lees Ford Marina rental certificate.
“Our 15th Annual Holiday Auction was an overwhelming success, and we couldn't be more grateful for the incredible support we received from our local businesses, residents, and partners,” said Bobby Clue, Executive Director of the Somerset-Pulaski Chamber of Commerce. “Thanks to the generosity of those who donated and bid. We’ve not only raised vital funds for local scholarships, but we’ve also brought our community closer together during this special time of year. The outpouring of enthusiasm and participation demonstrates the strength of our local economy and the spirit of collaboration that makes Lake Cumberland such a wonderful place to live and work.”
Since the inception of the Chamber Holiday Auction, more than $270,000 has been raised to support higher education in Pulaski County and 122 scholarships have been awarded.
The support from the chamber and community has been incredible," stated Dr. Carey Castle, President and CEO of SCC. "Each year, we see this auction grow and it’s amazing to see the commitment everyone has to investing in our students at SCC. We are deeply grateful to everyone who donated, bid, and contributed to the event’s success."
