Kylie Hines of Somerset received the award and is now a candidate for the Division’s Student of the Year Award, to be announced in May 2025.

Hines had already completed SCC’s Entry-Level Pharmacy Technology Certificate Program before being admitted to the Advanced-Level diploma program and currently works at the Medicine Shoppe in Somerset.

“I learned everything I need to be a great pharmacy technician, and the program really prepared me for the real world,” states Hines.

The program educates students about medications and their effects on the body, pharmacy compounding, packaging and labeling, pharmaceutical calculations, pharmacy law and mixing I.V. medications. Graduates may be employed in hospitals and a variety of pharmacy settings. SCC offers both an entry-level certificate that may be completed in one semester and an advanced pharmacy technology diploma.

“Kylie is a great student with a bright future ahead as a caring and compassionate pharmacy technician,” states Merritt. “I can always count on her to work hard, have a great attitude, and a smile on her face!”

Hines highlights some of her favorite things about being an SCC student.

“My experience at SCC has been very positive, "states Hines. “Mrs. Merritt was excellent.  She was always very helpful and responsive when I had questions. I feel at SCC, we have the opportunity to follow our dreams right here in town and not have to move away from where you know.

Hines is scheduled to be awarded her diploma in advanced pharmacy technology in December 2024 and plans to continue to work for the Medicine Shoppe.

I will have a certificate and a diploma with my name on them by the end of the year, and I can say that I made it. I did it,” Hines gladly shared.
