SCC enrollment up double digits less than two weeks before classes start thanks to life-changing opportunities for locals

Published on Aug 7, 2024

Somerset Community College (SCC) is providing Kentuckians with a free or low-cost opportunity to enter high-demand, high-wage careers through the Work Ready KY Scholarship. This program efficiently prepares local individuals for the workforce, equipping them with the necessary training to thrive in their chosen careers. Graduates can earn a livable wage and fill the gap for skilled workers in Kentucky.

The Work Ready KY Scholarship offers free tuition to students who are eligible and enrolling in one of the five following sectors: Healthcare, Construction, Business and IT, Advanced Manufacturing and Transportation and Logistics.

Don't miss out on this opportunity! Classes at SCC start on August 19, and they are still accepting students every day until classes begin.

Around 90 percent of those enrolled at SCC qualify and use financial aid to pay for their classes.

At SCC, we understand the diverse needs of our students. Many of our students are parents, and a significant percentage are also juggling work alongside their studies. Recognizing the need for flexibility, we provide a range of online, in-person and evening classes tailored to accommodate non-traditional schedules. Join us at SCC and experience a supportive educational environment that respects and adapts to your busy lifestyle.

SCC's impact on the region’s communities is significant, with 30 percent of its 2023/2024 academic year graduates being first-generation college students. This achievement highlights that these graduates are the first in their families to earn a college degree.

Whether you are taking just a few classes or a full course load, you can begin your journey toward a better career and life for yourself and your family while never leaving home.

With nearly two weeks before classes are set to begin, SCC is seeing a 6.8 percent increase in credit hours enrolled and a 10.8 percent increase in overall enrollment. The programs experiencing the most enrollment growth include Business & Professional Services and Health Sciences, with 466 more students enrolled in Health Sciences alone compared to this time last year.
