SCC students eligible for reimbursement of education costs for select non-academic programs through KHEAA and KEES Program

Published on May 15, 2024

If you're a current or former student at SCC enrolled in a Fiber Optics, CDL, Heavy Equipment, Lineman, Overhead or Underground Utility program between July 2023 and May 2024, you may be eligible for reimbursement of the money you invested in your education.

This new opportunity is available through the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA) reimbursement program, which uses the Kentucky Educational Excellence Scholarship (KEES) Program.

KEES scholarships are awarded to Kentucky students based on academic performance in high school through GPA and test scores. These scholarship funds expire when one of the following conditions has been met: it has been 5+ years since graduating high school, obtaining a bachelor's degree or using available funds for 8 college semesters.

SCC students who have eligible KEES funds earned in high school can now claim these scholarships using the Reimbursement Program available for the listed programs. This is great news for those taking non-academic and select technical-academic classes previously not approved for KEES funding.

Amber Craft, SCC’s Workforce Administrative Assistant, highlighted the significance of this opportunity for current and past students in the eligible programs.

"Every dollar counts when it comes to higher education, so we encourage any students who were enrolled in an approved program during the eligible dates to request their reimbursement and be postmarked by June 15, 2024," Craft said.

If you're not sure if you qualify and have been enrolled in one of the eligible programs, it's best to contact Amber Craft at 606-451-6692. The required forms for the reimbursement request can be accessed here:
