SCC Health Sciences division announces April Student of the Month
Published on Apr 3, 2024
A student enrolled in his final year of studies in the Somerset Community College EMS-Paramedic Program has been named the recipient of the SCC Health Sciences Division’s Student of the Month for April. William Day-Taylor of Nicholasville received the award and is now a candidate for the Division’s Student of the Year Award, to be announced in May 2024.
Paramedics are healthcare professionals whose primary focus is to respond to, assess, and triage emergent, urgent, and non-urgent requests for medical care, apply basic and advanced knowledge and skills necessary to determine patient physiologic, psychological, and psychosocial needs, and administer medications.
They also interpret and use diagnostic findings to implement treatment, provide complex patient care, and facilitate referrals to a higher level of care when necessary.
Day-Taylor, a veteran and already an Advanced EMT, was selected by his peers for this recognition. He was recommended for the award by Program Director Samantha Feldman. “William is one of the most resilient and dedicated students I have experienced since being named program director,’ States Feldman.
He is the type of student his classmates can count on, has an excellent sense of humor, and is highly respected. He is also a fantastic parent and perseveres through challenging times.”
Day-Taylor reports that his experiences at SCC have been positive. “When I was in a time of need with a personal tragedy, my EMS family came together to help me. Likewise, I do the same. This sense of community has made this an excellent learning experience.”
Day-Taylor is a foster parent to Urijah and Nolan with his husband, Terry. He is in his final year of study and is scheduled to graduate in May 2024. Upon graduation, he plans to continue his career as a paramedic at Jessamine County EMS Services.
