SCC students have easy access to health and wellness benefits thanks to kynector, Lisa Caudill

Published on Feb 12, 2024

Lisa Caudill serves as a kynector coordinator for the Kentucky Primary Care Association at Somerset Community College (SCC), where she is responsible for connecting SCC students to health resources in southcentral Kentucky.

Caudill offers SCC students the option to schedule meetings by phone or in person to determine their eligibility for free or discounted health and wellness benefits. These include Medicaid, Qualified Health Plans, SNAP food benefits, and CCAP childcare assistance programs. This personalized approach enables students to explore the available resources that align with their unique needs, ensuring they receive the appropriate care and support.

Dr. Aaron Thompson, President of the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education, expressed gratitude for the level of partnership support that Kentucky has received for students' basic needs, which is unmatched by most states. He commended the efforts of Kentucky's higher education institutions and the Cabinet for Health and Family Services, who have united to enhance access to stable food sources, housing, affordable childcare, and other necessary resources. Dr. Thompson emphasized the importance of these efforts in promoting student success and degree completion and expressed his appreciation for the commitment of all parties involved.

Caudill provides an added convenience to SCC students by offering to submit documents for verification on their behalf. This service eliminates the need for students to visit offices in person, thereby streamlining the process of signing up for health and wellness benefits. Caudill's proactive approach helps to ensure that students can access the resources they need in a timely and efficient manner, enabling them to focus on their studies and overall well-being.

"Our health is our most valued asset. It is a privilege to be on the Somerset campus to support students, staff, and the community to obtain healthcare and other helpful benefits," Caudill said. "I am so excited to be a part of this program."
