SCC Laurel Campus food pantry gives holiday meals to student’s in need
Published on Nov 27, 2023
Some students at the Somerset Community (SCC) College Laurel Campus will be receiving
a free Thanksgiving meal kit thanks to donation efforts to SCC’s Share and Care Center
on the Laurel Campus.
This year the Health Sciences division showed up and showed out for the food drive on the Laurel Campus.
Particularly, students enrolled in the Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) Program made a big impact on the outcome of this year’s Thanksgiving Drive at SCC.
ADN students competed for a pancake breakfast and the chance to pie the face of their instructor/ professor. That breakfast was awarded to both cohorts due to the great effort and close competition.
As for the pie, that is reserved for SCC Nursing Instructor Mary Jo Westerfield.
Over a dozen meal kits will be given to local SCC students in need this November.
The Share and Care Center is a food pantry established in 2019 and is available to SCC students all year in which food and other necessities are donated to give a helping hand to students in need.
Students can visit the center located at the Laurel and Somerset Campus all year if they are in need and donations are accepted throughout the year.
This past year from July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023, the Laurel Campus assisted 377 students and Somerset Campus assisted 361 students.
