SCC Physical Therapist Assistant Program Announces Clinical Educator of the Year

Erica Kennedy, a physical therapist assistant with Drayer Physical Therapy Institute located in Lexington, KY, has been named the 2019 Outstanding Clinical Educator by the Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) Program at Somerset Community College (SCC).
The Outstanding Clinical Educator award is presented annually to one physical therapist assistant educator who demonstrates excellence in teaching and a commitment to the ideals of the physical therapy profession. Kennedy was nominated for the award by Michael Guillory, a 2019 SCC PTA program graduate and employee of Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital.
Kennedy is a native of Lexington, where she grew up before pursuing a career in physical therapy field. She is a 2011 graduate of the PTA program at SCC where she earned her Associate of Applied Science degree in physical therapist assistant. She is currently the clinical rehab director at Drayer and has served as a clinical instructor for the past five years.
“I am extremely excited and grateful to be nominated for this award,” said Kennedy. “I truly enjoy working with students and I love being able to share my enthusiasm and passion for helping patients.”
“Erica is a very energetic and knowledgeable clinician,” stated Guillory. “She is wonderful educator who is patient and helpful. I am so thankful for the opportunity to learn from her.”
Dr. Steve Hammons, the PTA program Academic Coordinator of Clinical Education said, “Erica was a fantastic student who has become an even better clinician, but more than that, she is wonderful person.”
