SCC Partners with the City of London to Host Fourth of July Celebration
Published on Jun 21, 2019
Somerset Community College (SCC) and the City of London will host a two-day event to celebrate the fourth of July. The celebration will take place on the Laurel campus at 100 University Drive in London, KY.
The Lights Over London Lantern festival will be held on Friday, June 28, with festivities beginning at 7:00 p.m. This is a unique illuminating event that you don’t want to miss.
The festival is hosted by the City of London Tourism and Somerset Community College. Kentucky Farm Bureau, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, is the presenting sponsor.
Proceeds from the event will benefit United Aid of Laurel County Summer Feeding Program.
Admission to the festival is free. Lanterns can be purchased at the festival for $10. A limited number will be available, so one per family is recommended.
Live music will begin at 7:00 p.m. and the lanterns will be released at 10:00 p.m. The musical lineup features a variety of genres—rock, bluegrass, jazz and blues—that will make everyone happy.
The Red, White & Boom event will be held Saturday, June 29. This is Southeast Kentucky’s largest fireworks display. Festivities begin at 4:00 p.m. with fireworks at dusk.
Both events are free, and everyone from the community is invited.
