Board of Directors October 2022 Meeting Minutes

Call to Order
Chair Harris called the meeting of the Somerset Community College Board of Directors to order at 1:04 p.m. She welcomed everyone in attendance.
ACTION ITEM: July 28, 2022 MINUTES
Ms. Kelly Johnson announced that the minutes of the July 28, 2022 meeting were included in the agenda booklet and the book was mailed to Board members in advance of the meeting. Mr. Brown moved the minutes to be approved as distributed. Dr. Cherry seconded the motion. The minutes were unanimously approved.
PRESIDENT’S REMARKS
Dr. Castle reported an increase in enrollment for Somerset Community College. He briefly discussed the data such as headcount and the number of credits hours enrolled and the positive changes the College is seeing. He also reported SCC is seeking external assistance with enrollment analysis and enrollment strategies to continue those positive changes in the future.
Dr. Castle announced some recent changes made to the KCTCS Board of Regents. Mr. James Lee Stevens, Chair; Mr. Barry Martin Vice-Chair; Dr. Wendy Fletcher, secretary; Ms. Lisa Demaris completed her appointment and rotated off the Board; Ms. Kathleen Kelly Rabinowitz started her appointment to the Board.
Dr. Castle reported updates to SCC initiatives. First, he thanked the board members for their attendance and sponsorship of the Hall of Honor Dinner and Auction. The College is still making renovations at the EKU Campus in Manchester to accommodate the ADN program. SCC plans to start classes in January 2023. In addition, SCC is building a CDL pad on the Valley Oak property and the community should see more improvement over the next few months. The College continues to use 4DX to help employees find where their focus and dedication should be to accomplish college goals.
Dr. Castle reported that SCC is hosting several events on different campuses. He shared some of those dates with the Board and invited them to attend if they have the chance.
Dr. Castle announced that Friday, December 16, 2022, there will be a Board Breakfast at Downtown Deli at 8:30 a.m.
ACTION ITEM: Election of Officers for 2023
On behalf of the nominating committee, Dr. Cherry presented the slate of officers for 2023 at the meeting. Ms. Charlene Harris as Chair, Mr. Phillip Duncan as Vice-Chair, and Ms. Kelly Johnson as Secretary. Mr. Arnett moved to accept the officers as presented. Mr. Brown seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
In addition, Chair Harris announced the reappointment of Ms. Marsha Phelps as the SCC staff representative.
ACTION ITEM: Meeting Schedule for 2023
Chair Harris asked Board members if there are any conflicts with the 2023 meeting schedule as sent to them in their Board books and, if not, she asked for a motion to approve. Dr. Cherry moved to accept the meeting schedule as presented. Mr. Cook seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
Adjournment
Chair Harris announced the next meeting will be on January 26, 2023. Chair Harris asked for a motion to adjourn. Mr. Todd made a motion and with no further business, the members were dismissed at 1:29.
