Continuing Education for License Holders


The Office of Workforce Solutions provides continuing education classes to meet the state licensing requirements in the following areas: (Click the links to register and pay online, or you may call 606-451-6692 to pay over the phone.)  NOTE:  Fee increase as of May 1, 2018

2014 NEC Code Class - Jerry Adams - $75

Somerset Community College now offers an online course which meets the Kentucky license requirement for Master Electricians and Electricians continuing education.
The purpose of this program is to provide participants with the skills, strategies, and tools for problem solving within the electrical field using the electrical code as the guide. Instruction and testing for this course is offered totally online.
To begin the course, you will need to email SCCWorkforceSolutions@kctcs.edu with the following information:
• Name
• Address
• Phone Number
• Email Address
• Birthday
• Last 4 of SS
• License Number
Once this information is received, you will be added to the course and sent a link with logon information. Once you complete the course with a 70% on the final exam, you will be directed to a link where you can pay for the course. Once you have paid for the course, a certification of completion will be awarded to you and your continuing education credits will be submitted to the Kentucky Department of Housing, Buildings, and Construction.

Contracting in Kentucky - Chris Bennett

If you have a Master or Journeyman Plumbing license, an Electrical Contractor license, AND/OR a Master or Journeyman HVAC license, this course is for you.  You can take ONE class on ONE day and get credit for ONE, TWO, or THREE licenses.  If you have more than one license, you can save a day or two of training.  This course meets the Kentucky license requirement for continuing education for Master & Journeyman Plumbers, Electrical Contractors AND Master & Journeyman HVAC.

NOTE: When registering, you will need to register for each type of course (just add each class to your cart and checkout once) - Just make sure you choose the SAME DAY for each class you need to get the benefit of one day training for each of your licenses (does NOT include Master/Electrician).

This continuing education course offers an introduction to the various facets of establishing, operating, and owning an electrical contracting business.  Topics covered include legal forms of business organizations, financial and accounting issues, risk management and insurance, marketing, production, human resource requirements, OSHA Safety Regulations for skilled trades like Electrical, Plumbing, and HVAC;  Retirement planning and workman’s compensation issues.  Quality management techniques will also be addressed.

Using data from the Kentucky Building and Residential code, state, and federal business law, this class will offer clarification and insight to the current business climate in Kentucky. The class will encourage all attendees to gain expertise in building code and a solid understanding of basic and advanced business practices. With these tools contractors will be empowered with the ability to succeed in business. SCC Kentucky Plumbing Provider # is PLBCEP-0004.
