Somerset Community College will be hosting the UK Student Singers to celebrate Black History Month. The performance will take place in the Citizens National Bank Community Room of the Harold Rogers Student Commons on the SCC Somerset Campus, Thursday, February 10 at 7:00 p.m. The UK Student Singers are expected to provide an engaging repertoire of selections that will entertain and delight the audience.
Dr. Everett McCorvey, Director of the Opera Theatre for the University of Kentucky, was scheduled to present a lecture at Somerset Community College on Thursday, February 10, but was unable due to an unexpected out-of-state engagement with the American Spiritual Ensemble. He graciously asked some of his UK Student Singers to present a musical program on that evening.
Elaine A. Wilson, SCC Director of Cultural Diversity, expressed disappointment that Dr. McCorvey could not make it but is looking forward to hearing the UK Student Singers. I hate to disappoint so many of Dr. McCorveys fans, but I feel this program will offer a delightful opportunity for the community to experience the fruits of Dr. McCorveys work through his students, commented Wilson.
Dr. McCorvey is known worldwide for his talent and gifted performances. He is a teacher and vocal advisor at the University of Kentucky where his status is that of Professor and Director of the Opera Department. He is the founder and Director of the American Spiritual Ensemble, and has been instrumental in instructing and coaching many singers, many of whom have gained status with the Metropolitan Opera and other venues.
The performance by the UK Student Singers is free and the public is encouraged to attend. For more information about Black History Month events at Somerset Community College, contact Elaine Wilson, Director of Cultural Diversity, at 606-451-6915.
