SCC's Medical Laboratory Technician Program Reaccredited

MLT class

The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) program at Somerset Community College recently received reaccreditation from the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science.

For the accreditation process, the MLT program had to undergo an extensive self-study that evaluated program curriculum, facilities, faculty qualifications and clinical sites. No deficiencies were found in the program and accreditation was given for seven years, the maximum accreditation time that a MLT program can receive, according to Donna Ratliff, MLT program coordinator.

The MLT program at Somerset Community College is among the best, said Ratliff. We have dedicated faculty and excellent students. This accreditation, while necessary for operation, solidifies our reputation and allows us to focus on continuing to supply the laboratory industry with quality graduates.

For the past five years, the MLT program has placed 100 percent of graduates in jobs. The program also has an average of a 94 perfect pass rate on the National Board of Certification exam for the past five years, Ratliff said. Graduates of the program are employed in hospital laboratories, outpatient laboratories and industrial laboratories.
