Somerset Community College placed 12th in the 2010 Best Places to Work in Kentucky annual competition. The awards ceremony was held at the Lexington Convention Center on April 21, 2010. It is the sixth year that the Kentucky Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce has sponsored this event and it is the fifth year that SCC has been named one of the winners.

Awards were given to the top 32 best places to work in two categories: Businesses employing more than 250 (large) and those employing less than 250 (small/medium). Somerset Community College competed in the large business category. First place in this category went to the law firm of Stoll Keenon Ogden PLLC, second place was the investment firm Edward Jones, and third place went to Pikeville Medical Center.

The selection process, managed by Best Companies Group, is based on an assessment of the company's benefits, policies and practices and the results of confidential employee evaluation. The combined data allowed the experts to analyze the strengths and challenges of each company and then determine who was good enough to make the list and then compared and ranked them in different size categories.

Dave Adkisson, President and CEO of the Kentucky Chamber stated, Through Best Places to Work, you are able to measure your employees workplace satisfaction each year. You can then take these results and create positive measures that will, in the long run, help advance Kentucky.
