SCC Honors Outstanding Faculty and Staff
Two staff members and one faculty member from Somerset Community College were recognized for their leadership and significant achievements at a Kentucky Community and Technical College System awards ceremony held Monday, May 16, at the Lexington Convention Center.
SCC and the other 15 KCTCS colleges selected an outstanding administrative staff member, support staff member and faculty member based on their innovative and major accomplishments. The SCC Award of Excellence recipients are: Christine Adams, Support Staff Award of Excellence; Linda Bourne, Administrative Staff Award of Excellence; and Linda Ballard, Faculty Award of Excellence.
Christine Adams, Contact Center Supervisor, is the SCC Support Staff Award of Excellence recipient. Adams has been with Somerset Community College since October 2009 and was instrumental in establishing the Student Services Contact Center. The Contact Center started with assisting student services inquiries and now has expanded by adding the mainline switchboard and outbound campaigning to current, past and future students.
Linda Bourne, Associate Dean of Extended Programs, is the SCC Administrative Staff Award of Excellence recipient. Bourne has been with Somerset Community College since 1998. She led the initiative to increase the number of online courses available to students at SCC. In two years, SCC increased online course offerings by 131%. By increasing course offerings, SCC students taking online courses from SCC increased 274%.
Linda Ballard, Professor of Nursing and Coordinator of the Associate Degree Nursing program, is the SCC Faculty Award of Excellence recipient. Ballard has been with SCC since 1994. She developed and implemented a plan that ultimately provided a registered nurse program at the Laurel Campus to serve the students in the eastern part of SCCs service area which includes Laurel, Jackson, Clay, Whitley and Knox counties.
This Award of Excellence program is an annual event that recognizes staff and faculty members at each of the 16 KCTCS colleges who make significant contributions to their individual college and to the system.
