An employee of Somerset Community College has received an award from the Miss Kentucky Scholarship Organization for the design and production of the program book for the Miss Somerset Community College (SCC) scholarship pageant, held in March.

Linda Daugherty, SCC print shop assistant, was recognized by the organization for Best Program Book. Daugherty is originally from Mt. Victory in Pulaski County, but she now resides in Laurel County. She is a 2006 graduate of the Visual Communications program at SCC. In her current role, Daugherty does graphic design and oversees the administrative and printing duties of the colleges print shop. This is the second year Daugherty has won the award.

According to Dr. Ron Meade, director of the Miss SCC pageant, the Miss Kentucky Scholarship Organization recognizes local pageants for various aspects of their competition. These include awards for in-kind and cash scholarship amounts, pageant production and program book.

Haley Taulbee, a graduate of South Laurel High School who will be attending both SCC and Eastern Kentucky University this fall, was crowned the 2016 Miss Somerset Community College. Taulbee will represent SCC at the state event in July. She hopes to obtain a degree in speech and language pathology.

The Miss Kentucky Scholarship Organization is a 501c4 non-profit scholarship program and is the state preliminary of the largest scholarship organization for women in the world, the Miss America Organization.
