Travis McQueen, an Associate Professor of Construction and Manufacturing at the Laurel Campus of Somerset Community College, was elected as the State Curriculum Co-Chair for Construction Technology Programs for the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) on Friday, Nov. 6.
McQueen has been teaching carpentry at the Laurel Campus of SCC for the past 11 years. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1999 and his Master of Science degree in 2001 from Eastern Kentucky University.
I have really enjoyed my time here as Somerset Community College. I have had tremendous support with my program from the administration, faculty, and staff, McQueen said. I have several area Craft Committee Members who routinely stop in and let me know about changes that is going on in the industry. All have helped me to stay up with and teach the latest trends in the construction industry. Over the years of working at SCC, I have never dreaded going into work. My colleagues and students keep me honest, and I have always enjoyed teaching the trade to students who want to learn.
McQueen has served as the faculty council representative for Construction and Manufacturing at SCC for the last two years.
McQueen will be a member of the 2010 Faculty PASS Team at SCC. PASS stands for Pose vital questions to help identify the problem, Acquire and evaluate relevant information, See other points of view, and Solve problems through logic and reason. PASS is an important part of SCCs Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) and Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) accreditation process called Critical Thinking: PASS it on.
McQueen is a member of the board of the Kentucky Community and Technical Education Association (KCTEA). He is an active member of the Kentucky Education Association (KEA) and the American Federation of Teachers (AFT).
