New Somerset Community College film to premiere

Somerset Community College Theatres Digital Video Productions is proud to premiere its new film, A Liars Swag. The caper film, shot by SCCs Theatre program, will be shown on the big screen in Stoner Little Theatre on Saturday, September 10 at 8:00 p.m. There is no admission fee.

A Liars Swag tells the story of three kids who decide to rob two corrupt accountants who have embezzled over a million dollars from the federal government. As the caper unfolds, things go awry in a comical and surreal fashion. The three principal characters are played by Josh Jones and Matthew Shackelford of Pulaski County and Emily Singleton of Casey County.

Josh Jones, a former SCC student, will play the role of Sammy, one of the pair of thieves. Jones is currently a student at E.K.U. and has appeared in such SCC play productions as The Importance of Being Earnest, The Dangerous Effects of Tobacco, School For Scandal and the last two seasons production of Sketches! On film, he has appeared in such Digital Video Productions as Journal and A Moment of Delusion.

The role of Sammys partner in crime, Clyde, will be played by SCC student, Matthew Shackelford. Shackelford is a filmmaker himself and has made and acted in such films as The Ploy and Guiding Spirit. He has acted on the Stoner stage in School For Scandal and Sketches!

The role of Anna, the nave young woman who gets caught up in the criminals plan, is played by Emily Singleton. Singleton, a theatre major at SCC, has appeared in such SCC productions as School For Scandal and last seasons Sketches!

Others appearing in the film are Theresa Kibby, Bruce Singleton and Jason Baker.

Kibby, who plays the role of Annas unsuspecting aunt, is a veteran actress who has appeared in a multitude of SCC stage productions including Fiddler on the Roof, The Secret Affairs of Mildred Wild, and The Glass Menagerie. She also played the recurring role of Lauren McNair in the Radio Suspense Theatre series at SCC. In film, she appeared in Dustins Reunion, The Stronger and Nancy Barrys Big Case.

Bruce Singleton, who plays the role of the corrupt accountant Mr. Stoltz, has also logged many hours on the SCC stage. He appeared in the role of Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof, as well as key roles in Godspell, The Villains of Shakespeare and Arsenic and Old Lace. He also had a performance in SCCs film Nancy Barrys Big Case.

The role of Singletons side-kick, Mr. Messer, will be played by Jason Baker. Baker graduated from SCC this past spring and will attend E.K.U. next semester. Baker has been seen in such SCC play productions as The Dangerous Effects of Tobacco, School For Scandal and in two seasons of Sketches! He also appears in the title role of Iridescent Pictures most recent film, The Soldier.

The film is narrated by veteran stage and film actor Navada Shane Morgan. Morgan has appeared in many SCC play productions as well as with the Nashville Shakespeare Company. He can be seen in key roles in most of SCCs film productions including Dustins Reunion, Dancing in Moonlight and Journal.

The film was crewed by Dana Floro, David Daring, Jason Baker, Aaron Whitehead, Chuck Carter, Ryan Stogsdill, J.J. Bowling, Critley King, Eric Whitson, Josh Strong, Tyler Fish and Keifer Adkins. Special choreography was supplied by Leann Perlowski and Sherry Crabtree was the costume coordinator. Steve Cleberg wrote and directed the project.
