Shelby Morgan (right), of Eubank and a graduate of Lincoln County High School, was named the 2015 Miss Somerset Community College. Tyra Sengkhamyong (left), of Dunnville, was named Miss Somerset. Both will compete at the 2015 Miss Kentucky Pageant.
Somerset Community College crowned Miss Somerset Community College 2015 on Saturday, March 7, in an event held at The Center for Rural Development. Shelby Morgan, of Eubank, will represent the college at the 2015 Miss Kentucky Pageant, to be held in Lexington in July. Morgan, who performed On My Own from the Broadway musical Les Miserables, received a full two-year scholarship to attend SCC. In addition, she received awards for interview and talent, was the top fundraiser for a Childrens Miracle Network fundraiser and was voted Miss Congeniality by the contestants.

As a surprise to the contestants, the pageant elected to send a second representative to the Miss Kentucky Pageant. The state pageant allows for a second contestant if the local pageant meets specific guidelines. Tyra Sengkhamyong of Dunnville will represent the college as Miss Somerset at the Miss Kentucky Pageant. She was the winner of the swimsuit and evening gown competitions and performed a traditional Laotian dance for her talent.

Bailey Brown of Russell Springs was named runner-up. Other contestants included: McKenzie Morris, Somerset; Kendra Stotts, Somerset; and Olivia Wilson, Somerset.

In total, the pageant provided more than $31,000 in cash and in-kind scholarships to contestants.

Special guests included: Ramsey Carpenter, Miss Kentucky 2014; Ashley Johnson, Miss SCC 2014; Susan Ramsey Wilson, Miss SCC 1965; Carly Lloyd, vocalist; and Kennedy Saberwahl, Renfro Valleys Outstanding Teen.

Choreography for the event was coordinated by AB Studios of Somerset. Event sponsors included Totally Trendy Boutique, Simply the Best Flowers and Gifts, Cook Designer Portraits, Miss Priss and Images Modeling Agency. SCC Faculty member Carol Calcaterra participated in fundraising activities for the Kentuckys Choice leading up to the event.
