A nurse aide provides basic nursing skills to assist the licensed nurse, such as helping
with bathing, dressing, toileting, and mobility. A nurse aide effectively communicates
with residents/patients, follows infection and safety policy and procedures, and adheres
to resident/patient rights.
Work in a variety of healthcare settings-hospital, home health care, long-term care
and assisted living facilities, private duty settings, or Hospice.
TrainingSomerset Community College offers the nurse aide course (NAA 100) at the following campuses: Somerset, Russell, Clinton, McCreary, and London. These may be traditional, web-enhanced, or hybrid classes.
8 week and 15 week courses are offered during the Spring or Fall terms
2-3 week courses are offered in the Summer term
Certification: must complete the NAA 100 course with a C or greater. Then student
is eligible to take the State Nurse Aide Exam.
State Registered Nurse Aide ExamThe State Nurse Aide Exam consists of 75 multiple choice questions and 5 random skills.
Student must complete the NAA 100 course in the state of Kentucky with a grade of a C or greater. Date of completion of class must be within one year time frame. Student has 3 attempts within the year completion to take the state exam. When student is successful on the state exam, the student is placed on the Nurse Aide Registry.

1. Roster or certificate from the training class
2. Government issued photo ID or current drivers license
3. Non-laminated social security card (names must match on license and social security card)
4. Receipt of payment provided by the business office
