Aaron Norton Receives Kody Thacker Scholarship

2015 Kody Thacker scholarshipAaron Norton, a Somerset Community College (SCC) student from Pulaski County, is the 2015 recipient of the Kody Thacker Scholarship. The scholarship, given in memory of Kody Thacker, is designated for a Southwestern High School (SWHS) student to be used during his or her first year at SCC.

The Kody Thacker Scholarship fund, as well as the Kyle Thacker Scholarship fund, was set up by the family of Kody and Kyle Thacker, two brothers who had promising personal and academic futures when an accidental shooting tragedy struck the family more than two years ago. Kody was an SCC student when the accident occurred.

The scholarship fund in Kyle Thackers name is designated for a student at Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) studying in the Economics department, where Kyle had been enrolled.

Its an honor to do this in memory of Kody, said Keith Thacker, twin brother of Kyle and Kodys older brother. We are grateful for friends and family coming together and for the colleges support.

In a letter of appreciation to the Thacker family, Norton wrote, I do not fully know what career path I plan to take but I am interested in either majoring in criminal justice or religion. After graduation I would like to be involved with something that can help our community and make it a better place. Your generosity has helped me to be one step closer to giving back to our community.

Norton is a graduate of Southwestern High School. He is the son of David and Lisa Norton of Somerset.
