Fruit of the Lens upcoming photography exhibit "Outbreak: Picturing A Pandemic
Published on Nov 2, 2020
The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a public health crisis, economic upheaval and widespread uncertainty. An upcoming exhibit by Somerset Community College’s (SCC) photography club will chronicle this disruption.
“Outbreak: Picturing A Pandemic” is the theme for the digital exhibit that will be released on Facebook and YouTube on Tuesday, December 1. Fruit of the Lens club members will focus their cameras on recording how the pandemic has affected life in south-central Kentucky and can submit up to 10 images for the show.
And while only club members may participate in the exhibit, it’s easy to become a member, and anyone can join. Simply email SCC faculty advisor Cindy Burton at firstname.lastname@example.org and ask to be in the club. She will enroll you in the group and send instructions for submitting images to the exhibit. The deadline to send in photos is Tuesday, November 17.
“The main criteria for joining the club is just to enjoy taking photographs,” Burton said. She noted that members can use any type of camera, even the camera on their phone, for their submissions.
“As difficult as it is to believe right now, there will be a time when the COVID-19 pandemic will be over,” Burton said. “This exhibit will feature more than just great photography; it will also provide a record of these unusual times for future generations.”
The advisor noted that 20 club members submitted photos for this past spring’s digital exhibit and that the presentation has been viewed over 200 times. That exhibit can be seen by searching “Roots & Branches photography exhibit” on YouTube.
The mission of Fruit of the Lens photography club is to provide a setting where SCC students, staff, faculty can come together to share digital images and discuss photography.
Additional information on the club is available on their Facebook page. This page will also include a link to the “Outbreak” exhibit when it is released.
