Culinary Experiences Offered at SCC's New State of the Art Kitchen

Published on Apr 17, 2019

Learn to make impressive meals for your friends and family with adult cooking classes offered at Somerset Community College through the Culinary Arts Program.

The new facility, located on the Somerset Campus, will provide hands-on learning opportunities for students enrolled in the College’s Culinary Arts programs.  Designed to be representative of future workplace kitchens, the lab houses brand new commercial grade equipment including a walk-in cooler with reach-in freezer, a series of cook-top ranges and ovens sheltered by a 21-foot exhaust hood, as well as stainless steel top work tables.

SCC’s professional chef instructors will walk learners of all skill levels through the cooking process in a fun, relaxed environment. The first class features instruction on how to cook a meal from scratch and will provide the student in the proper preparation of the Kentucky Hot Brown, Sautéed Frog Legs and Bourbon Balls. The course also provides instruction in Sanitation and Food Safety.

Here is a special opportunity for employees and the community for adult cooking classes, receive one credit hour and enroll today. The courses will be held at the SCC’s Somerset campus in the Culinary Arts Room 121 in Meece Hall, 808 Monticello Street, Somerset. Attendees will be standing, cooking, and working for most of the class and must wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes and have long hair tied back.

Additional adult cooking classes will be added throughout the summer and again during the next school year.
