2010 Summer School Financial Aid Information
We hope you are making plans to attend classes at Somerset Community College. Here are a few guidelines to ensure a smooth financial aid process. Once you have met with your advisor and advanced registered, if you anticipate receiving aid, you need to come by the Financial Aid Office and complete a summer application. (This is the only way we will know you are enrolled. Summer is a manual process for the Financial Aid Office.)
Important Pell Grant Changes
Pell is now YEAR ROUND. In the past if you used 50% of your Pell in the Fall term and 50% of the Pell in the Spring term, then you did not have Pell eligibility remaining for the summer term. NEW THIS YEAR: We now have year round Pell. In order to qualify, you must be enrolled for at least 6 credit hours for summer and meet the normal Pell requirements and Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP).
SEOG (Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant)
SEOG is available for students who qualify if they chose to not enroll for 6 hrs during
the summer until funding is exhausted.
The amount of SEOG awards will be based on the number of credits for which you are enrolled. Please check your self service for awards. We are posting them as quickly as possible.
We can only pay you one time for summer. If you expect to be enrolled for 4 week and
8 week, you must be registered for both at the time we disburse aid. Also, we will
not disburse aid until after your last class begins. In other words, if you are taking
a 4 week and an 8 week class, we will not disburse money until after the 8 week class is official and has begun.
As usual, you will have to have your summer file completed and be in good standing for SAP. Also, if you are required to do a degree audit you will need to so before bookstore charges occur.
Bookstore charge dates are as follows:
Enrolled in a 4 week session:
You must come to the Financial Aid Office and pick up a paper voucher. This voucher must be presented to the bookstore staff along with your schedule (and photo ID). Dates to charge are May 11 May 15.
Enrolled in a 8 week session:
You will not need a voucher to charge books. Charges will be accepted at the bookstore June 1 - June 9. You will need a copy of your schedule and photo ID.
Enrolled in both 4 and 8 week (multiple) sessions:
You will need a voucher during the 4 week class and can only charge those texts needed
for the 4 weeks class(es). When your 8 week classes begin, you will be able to charge
during time period list above under normal charge procedures.
NOTE: If you charge a book(s) and a class is cancelled, you are responsible for the payment of the new book if you have removed the plastic covering. In order to get a full refund, you must have the original receipt as well as not removing the covering. If you have charged a used book, the original receipt is all that is necessary (as well as any materials with the book). All returns for a full refund must be made by the last day to enter a class for summer.
