Pictures focusing on Kentucky’s weather, small town architecture, landscapes, food and more will be displayed at Somerset Community College’s Russell Center on September 19 from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (CT).

The exhibit is sponsored by the college’s Fruit of the Lens photography club. The digital exhibit presentation will be held at the SCC Russell Center, Room 113, 848 W. Steve Warner Drive in Russell Springs.

“Students and the public are invited to come view the entire presentation or just stop by to look at some of the pictures,” said SCC Associate Professor Cindy Burton, a faculty advisor for the club. “The images will be projected onto a big screen and are from exhibits over the past five years.”

Burton noted that most of the pictures were taken in south-central Kentucky by area residents. The exhibit, “A View Through the Lens: Our Place in the World,” contains over 1,500 images.

“We have several exhibitors in the show who are from Russell County,” Burton said, “including Irene Black and Ford Nashett, who will be attending the event.”

Black and Nashett are founding members of the club. The group’s annual photo contest, which presents The Nash Black Photography Awards, is named in their honor.

Winfrey Bates, director of the Russell Center, said that everyone is invited to visit the center and view the presentation.

“The community is invited,” said Bates, noting that she would like to see area residents join students and staff at the event. “We are excited to be able to host this exhibit.”

The goal of the Fruit of the Lens photography club is to provide a setting where SCC students, staff and faculty can come together with the community to share digital images and discuss photography.

Officers for the current school year are SCC students, Jonah Deaton of London, president, and Mark Sowders of Somerset, vice president.
